Mathematics
"THE ESSENCE OF MATHEMATICS IS NOT TO MAKE SIMPLE THINGS COMPLICATED, BUT TO MAKE COMPLICATED THINGS SIMPLE." - S. GUDDER.
Maths Leaders: Nick Jones and Millie O'Connor
Our Purpose (based on the National Curriculum)
At Rack House Primary School, our mathematics curriculum is built on the belief that every child can be successful in maths. Rooted in the National Curriculum and delivered through the Maths-No Problem! approach, our purpose is to ensure that all pupils become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, reason mathematically, and solve problems with confidence and resilience.
We aim to deliver a high-quality, ambitious and inclusive mathematics education that provides pupils with a deep, secure and adaptable understanding of number, pattern, and mathematical structure. Aligned with the latest Ofsted Mathematics Subject Review and the Educational Inspection Framework (EIF), our curriculum reflects best practice in curriculum coherence, subject expertise and a focus on long-term learning.
We recognise that mathematics underpins much of everyday life and is crucial to many aspects of learning and work. At Rack House, we strive to build confident mathematicians who enjoy the subject and see its relevance in the world around them. Through carefully sequenced and connected learning experiences, we support children in developing both procedural fluency and conceptual understanding - ensuring that knowledge is remembered and built upon over time.
Our approach promotes talk and reasoning, where children are encouraged to explain their thinking, justify answers and explore different methods. Mistakes are valued as learning opportunities, contributing to a culture of growth mindset and resilience.
Mathematics at Rack House is more than just a subject - it is a way of thinking. We want our pupils to leave us not only proficient in mathematics but also empowered to use it to make sense of their world.
