Resourced Provision
What is a Resourced Provision?
In Manchester, most children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), including those with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), are educated within mainstream schools. A select number of these schools offer enhanced support through a dedicated area known as a Resourced Provision (RP).
The Resourced Provision at our school is designed to support pupils who experience significant barriers to accessing mainstream education due to Autism Spectrum Condition or speech, language, and communication needs. These pupils benefit from a specialist setting within the mainstream environment, which enables them to engage with the curriculum and wider school activities in a way that is tailored to their individual needs.
Pupils are enrolled in the mainstream school and are gradually supported to access mainstream lessons and activities in line with their readiness and personal development. The level of integration varies depending on each pupil’s specific requirements.
Within the RP, pupils receive targeted interventions and specialist support. This may include small group sessions focused on social communication, sensory processing, and emotional regulation, as well as therapeutic activities such as Lego Therapy. Additional support may also be provided during unstructured times such as break and lunch periods.
Our aim is to deliver high-quality teaching and learning that is informed by detailed and ongoing assessment of each pupil’s needs. We strive to create a nurturing environment in which pupils can develop confidence, acquire new skills, and increase their independence—applying what they learn in the RP to their experiences in the mainstream setting. It is important to note that pupils in the RP typically do not receive one-to-one or full-time individual support.
We are proud to work in partnership with SpeechWise and Dragon OT, who provide weekly visits for assessment, intervention, and staff training.
Rack house RP Overview
Our Resourced Provision has capacity for 7 pupils. Placement is determined by the level of need, age, and other relevant factors to ensure appropriate groupings and support structures.
Admissions to the Resourced Provision
Placement within the Resourced Provision is determined by the Local Authority. As part of the EHCP assessment process, collaborative discussions are held between parents or carers, school staff, educational psychologists, and the statutory assessment team to determine the most suitable provision for the child.
For pupils who already have an EHCP, the suitability of an RP placement can be discussed during the Annual Review. A review may also be convened at any time should there be a significant change in the pupil’s circumstances.
